Southwest Virginia Angus Finest Sale – December 10, 2005

The annual Southwest Virginia Angus Finest Sale was held on December 10, 2005 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Abingdon, Va.Freddie Mullins, the President of the Southwest Virginia Angus Association for 2006, presented the SWVAA roving champion Angus heifer award to John Clouse of Montgomery County, he had purchased the heifer at last years sale.The New River Valley Fair was the designated fair for 2005. .There was 49 registered Angus bulls sold that averaged $1,550 also 40 lots of registered Angus females averaged $1,908. In addition,19 commercial bred heifers averaged $1,280.The top selling bull was a consignment of Matney Angus Farm of Cedar Bluff,Va.He is a son of G A R Gridmaker.He had a 205 day adj. wt. of 852lbs.Gain on test of 4.15lbs./118 ratio and a 365 day adj. wt of 1338 lbs/124 ratio.This bull [15029129] sold for $2,700 to BMV Angus, The Balls’ of Abingdon,Va..The second top selling bull was a consignment of Mullins Angus Farm of Clintwood, VA..He is a son of S A F Focus of E R out of an EXT dam. He [14846766] sold for $2,400 to Charles Roberts of Rural Retreat,VA Two bulls sold for $2,300 each, one was a consignment of Deer Haven Farm/ Mark Akers of Narrows,Va he is a Hyline Right Time 338 son [14709461] that sold to Windy Hill Farm/Randall Nester of Pilot,Va. The other was a consignment of Echo Ridge Farm/ The Pratt family of Atkins,Va. He is a Rito 9K60 of 3015 Rito 3X25 son [15049472] that sold to Smithfield of Rosedale,Va.Volume buyers in the bull division, who each bought three bulls were Kandi McCall of Meadowview,Va.,Robert Styne of Riner,Va. and Charles Stroupe of Wytheville,Va.Twelve bulls sold into Wythe County and seven bulls sold into Washington County.

The top selling cow/calf pair was a Greenwood Angus/Mark Myers of Marion,Va.consignment. She is a four year old daughter [13823296] of Stone Gate Erin 887 that sold with a 5/21/05 bull calf for $2,350.The buyer was Pafford Angus Farm of Marion,Va.The top selling bred cow was a consignment of Pafford Angus Farm,she is a five year old daughter [15150500] of G A R Precision 1680 that was bred to G A R Expectation 4915.She sold for $1,975 to Spring Valley Farm/Kevin Moore of Abingdon,Va.The top selling open heifer [14840032] was a consignment of Country View Farm/Charles&Bill Phelps of Bluff City Tenn.. She is a daughter of W A R Alliance 9126 6006 and sold for $1,700 also to Spring Valley Farm/ Kevin Moore of Abingdon,Va.The volume buyers of the registered females were John Melvin of Bland,Va.with eight females and Muddy Creek Angus/Calvin Wright of Spring City,Tenn with five females.

The top selling commercial bred heifers were a consignment of Sharon Springs Farm/Laymond Barger of Ceres,Va.They were Angus cross heifers bred to calve March of 2006 to a calving ease son of Gardens Prime Time.They sold as a group of three for $1,475 to Bud Phillips of Dickenson County.

There were 56 different buyers from the142 people who registered for a bidder’s number. They were from West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina.Smith Reasor of Rural Retreat,Va. was the Auctioneer and George T. Johnstone Jr.of Wytheville,Va.was the Sale Coordinator.The sale was sponsored by the Southwest Virginia Angus Association.The next event for the SWVAA is the” Double Header Sale” on April 29,2006 at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Abingdon,Va,where 50 yearling performance tested Angus bulls and registered Angus females will be offered for sale.
